These are all milk and the Hebrews have need to be taught again of these principles. 5:12
3-8- If God permit, we will talk about these topics. But those we have tasted and been partaker and fall away again have crucified the Son of God afresh and put Him to an open shame. 2 Peter 2:20-22; Luke 8:13; 1 Peter 2:3; Mark 6:20. When God blesses a field with rain and the farmer produces herbs and a good crop it’s a blessing. But if it produces thorns and briers it will fall under God’s curse and it will be set on fire. The ground has been cursed three times: at the fall, after Cain killed his brother, and the flood.
9-12- God has better things for you and these things accompany salvation. What are these better things that accompany salvation? 2 Corinthians 7:10 (repentance) ; 2 Thessalonians 2:13 (sanctification); 2 Timothy 3:15 (Holy Scriptures); Titus 2:11 (grace); 1:4, 7:19, 7:22, 8:6, 9:23, 10:34, 11:16, 35, 40, 12:24, Philippians 1:21-23. Jesus is better. Because Jesus is better and we labour for Him we need to shew the same diligence to the full assurance of hope unto the end. Romans 12:11; 1 Corinthians 15:58; Galatians 6:9; 2 Peter 1:5-8; 3:14. The Lord wants to use us to not only bring the inheritance to others but also to you through faith and patience. Philippians 2:13; Hebrews 10:36
13-20- Paul goes back to the promise God made to Abraham who by faith and patience inherit the promise. Genesis 22:15-18; Psalm 105:9-10; Micah 7:20; PK 164.3-166. The two immutable things are the covenant (agreement) promise and the oath (solemn confirmation) that God made with Abraham. We are part of this promise if we believe in Christ. Christ is the seed Galatians 3:16, 29 because we have this promise which is Jesus Christ and the heavenly promise land (the blessed hope) verse 18 says "we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us" and this is both a sure and stedfast anchor for our soul which is Jesus Christ who entereth within then vail. Here we see who and what He is doing in our behalf. GC 489.1
